Since 2018, AVOW has hosted the annual Women’s Campaign Institute, an intensive three-day nonpartisan “boot camp,” followed by continuing alumni education. The Institute prepares local and regional women to run effective campaigns, seek public office, and gain appointment to public boards and commissions. Most importantly, women learn how to collaborate with people from other parties and ideologies to effectively govern. The Women's Campaign Institute features nationally recognized professionals and local superstars who provide expert training and individualized mentoring.
About AVOW, newly elected Kendallville Councilwoman Tara Streb says AVOW is "such a great learning experience for women who are seeking to get involved in local government." Streb is beginning her first term on the Kendallville Common Council in January and works in economic development as a member of the team at Be Noble Inc.
The Institute is not for everyone. First it is intense...26 hours non-stop between 9:00 on Friday and 3:30 on Sunday. Second, it is specifically designed for those with a collaborative mindset who are willing to reach across the aisle to get good government work done.
Fee: $75 (The Institute does fundraising to defray the actual cost of $750). Included are your training, meals and materials.
APPLICATION DEADLINE IS MAY 26, 2024. Apply here.
